Day of Silence vs. Truth
Each year, GLSEN promotes what it calls a "Day of Silence" as a way to draw attention to the bullying and harassment faced by LGBT students everywhere. Students observe a day of silence and carry a card that says:
Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence, a national youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies. My deliberate silence echos that silence, which is caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward fighting these injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today. What are you going to do to end the silence? The "Day of Truth" is promoted by the Christian terrorists of the Alliance Defence Fund. According to their website:
The Day of Truth was established to counter the promotion of the homosexual agenda and express an opposing viewpoint from a Christian perspectiveHere we go again with the dreaded "homosexual agenda."
Students participating in the Day of Truth are encouraged to wear T-shirts and pass out cards with the following message:
I am speaking the Truth to break the silence.Truth? Open discussion? Oh puh-lease... don't make me laugh.
Silence isn't freedom. It's a constraint.
Truth tolerates open discussion, because the Truth emerges when healthy discourse is allowed.
By proclaiming the Truth in love, hurts will be halted, hearts will be healed, and lives will be saved.
These fuck-heads are not interested in truth. They're certainly not interested in open discussions. They're passing out propaganda that promotes Christian dogma.
The "Day of Silence" is not pro-gay -- it's anti-hate. The "Day of Truth", on the other hand, is not about truth at all -- it's anti-gay. It's as simple as that.
